Notice of Intent to Remediate
Pursuant to the Land Recycling and Environmental Remediation Standards Act, the act of May 19, 1995, P.L.4, No. 1995-2, notice if hereby given that Morgantown Properties, a Pennsylvania limited partnership, has submitted to the Department of Environmental Protection a Notice of Intent to Remediate for a site located at Morgantown Road and Joanna Road in New Morgan, Berks County, Pennsylvania. This Notice of Intent to Remediate states that the site is /was a part of a mine tailings pond for the former Grace Mine. The site has been found to be contaminated with mine tailings containing heavy metals which has contaminated the soil on the site. Morgantown Properties has selected the Statewide Health Standards and they have indicated that the proposed remediation measures will be excavation of the contaminated mine tailings and contaminated soil for relocation to an off-site impoundment/consolidation area that will be capped with clean soil to prevent contact. The proposed future use of the property will be non-residential for development of industrial warehouses.
