NOTICE OF INTENT TO ADOPT LOCAL SERVICES TAX ORDINANCE NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that at a meeting of the Council of the Township of Chester, Delaware County, Pennsylvania, to be held on November 6, 2025, the Council intends to adopt an Ordinance amending the Occupational Privilege Tax to the Local Services Tax. The Ordinance is captioned as follows: AS AMENDED AN ORDINANCE OF THE TOWNSHIP OF CHESTER, DELAWARE COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA, AMENDING PART 3, ENTITLED OCCUPATIONAL PRIVILEGE TAX (OPT) OF CHAPTER 24, ENTITLED, SPECIAL TAXATION, OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE TOWNSHIP OF CHESTER AND TO ENACT A NEW PART 3 TO BE ENTITLED LOCAL SERVICES TAX (LST) IN ITS ENTIRETY, WHICH IMPOSES A TAX, FOR GENERAL REVENUE PURPOSES, UPON THE PRIVILEGE OF ENGAGING IN AN OCCUPATION WITHIN THE CORPORATE LIMITS OF THE TOWNSHIP OF CHESTER AT THE RATE OF FIFTY TWO DOLLARS ($52.00) PER YEAR. This Ordinance will amend the current Occupational Privilege Tax (OPT) of Ten Dollars ($10.00) annually to the Local Services Tax (LST) at the rate of Fifty-two Dollars ($52.00) of the consideration paid for individuals who work within the Township of Chester. The tax is to be used to fund essential community and emergency services. The Local Services Tax replaces the former Occupational Privilege Tax and shall take effect January 1, 2026. It is estimated that the proposed tax will raise approximately $169,000.00 of additional revenue. All who wish may attend the Council meeting and be heard.
